Manufacturing of fiberglass molds

In order to manufacture high-quality molds and considering the current technological level and quality of domestic mold manufacturing, the process of mold manufacturing is described below for your reference.

1、 Conditions for manufacturing molds

1. Environmental conditions

Temperature: During the entire process of manufacturing male and female molds, the same ambient temperature, i.e. 21-28 ℃, should always be maintained.

Humidity: Humidity has a significant impact on the curing of gel coats and resins, with an ideal humidity range of 40-60. If the relative humidity during mold manufacturing exceeds 65, it should be waited for suitable production conditions before construction, especially in southern and coastal areas where humidity is relatively high, and caution should be exercised.

2. Clean workshop

In a dirty environment, high-quality molds cannot be produced. The manufacturing area of the yin and yang molds should be highly clean and must have higher maintenance and management standards than the product production area. Therefore, at the beginning of mold manufacturing, dust removal and cleaning work in the mold manufacturing area should be done in advance.

3. Clean compressed air

Pure and dry air supply is another factor in manufacturing high-quality molds. If there is a small amount of water or oil in the air duct, a large number of pinholes and pits will appear on the surface of the mold gel coat, which requires a lot of labor to repair. This will greatly affect the quality of the mold. The air compressor needs to be placed in a good environment and equipped with an effective air dryer and oil-water separator.

4. Selection of raw and auxiliary materials

Choosing high-quality raw and auxiliary materials is an important condition for manufacturing high-quality molds. The cost of raw and auxiliary materials used for manufacturing molds only accounts for a small percentage of the total cost, and efforts cannot be made to save on using product resins, expired materials, and inferior materials.

5. Develop a reasonable mold making schedule

Arranging a suitable mold making schedule is one of the factors in manufacturing a good mold. Whether using traditional layering methods or using new low shrinkage systems, the required time is determined by the chemical properties of these raw and auxiliary materials. Attempting to take shortcuts or accelerate the process will have a negative impact on the quality of the mold.
